Q: How does Wi-Fi work?
A: Wi-Fi uses radio frequencies to send and receive information to devices. Devices are able to use the bandwidth by receiving the waves through wireless access points, which allow devices to connect to the network without a wire.
What is Wi-Fi?
A: Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technology that allows devices such as computers (laptops and desktops), mobile devices (smartphones, wearables, and XR/VR HMDs), and other devices (TVs, printers, cameras) to connect, both to each other for local functionality, such as screencast, and to the internet for cloud services. Wi-Fi allows all these devices, and many more, to exchange information over the internet, creating a network.
Our innovative Wi-Fi 7 solutions set the standard for next-generation Wi-Fi.
With extreme wireless internet speeds and consistent low latency, Wi-Fi 7 elevates wireless experiences and will accelerate emerging use cases, including low-latency extended reality (XR), social cloud-based gaming, 8K video streaming, and simultaneous video conferencing and casting. Qualcomm Technologies’ Wi-Fi 7 solutions push the boundaries of what Wi-Fi can do, with enhanced speeds, latency and network capacity plus support for advanced features like 320MHz channels, 4K QAM and advanced multi-link implementations such as High Band Simultaneous Multi-Link.
The future of Wi-Fi is here.
Wi-Fi 7 delivers next-gen wireless.
For decades, Qualcomm Technologies has pioneered critical Wi-Fi inventions, including techniques to quickly set up and onboard devices to Wi-Fi networks, advanced antenna architectures, radio waveform design to boost speed and range, and mesh Wi-Fi network technologies. Our inventions transform Wi-Fi while contributing meaningfully to Wi-Fi standards, through relentless innovation and the pursuit of unlicensed spectrum assets. We continue to support the growth of Wi-Fi 6 and 6E while leading the development of Wi-Fi 7 standards.
Experience significant performance increase with Wi-Fi 7.
320MHz Channel Bandwidths
Wi-Fi 7 can deliver massive throughput gains thanks to a wider channel and capacity gains from 6GHz spectrum. Wi-Fi 7 can deliver peak rates of over 40 Gbps, a 4X increase over Wi-Fi 6E.
Multi-Link Capabilities
Wi-Fi 7 introduces several multi-link options that can significantly increase throughput and reduce latency. The most powerful multi-link alternative is High-Band Simultaneous Multi-Link, which uses two Wi-Fi radios operating simultaneously in the high bands (5 or 6 GHz), creating one aggregated data pipe to deliver the optimal performance, even in congested areas.
Modulation Evolution
Wi-Fi 7 is standardizing an advanced modulation scheme called 4K QAM, which can boost the peak rates to increase throughput, and capacity compared to Wi-Fi systems using 1K QAM modulation.
Flexible Channel Utilization
This technology advancement is based on preamble puncturing to avoid channels with interference, resulting in an ability to use wider channels also in the face of interference.
